The first annual Kiwanis Kares About Kids picnic
was held at Miller Park. About 125 people attended
- foster families from The Baby Fold and The Children's
Foundation; agency staff; Kiwanis members; families
and friends. Sponsored by the Boys and Girls Committee,
there were games before and after lunch, swimming
in the lake, and lots and lots of food. Even the
weather was good!
Tricia Manard, co-chair of the committee, thanked
those who helped make this event a success: Billy
Walden, Bob Starkovich, Martha and Claude Miller,
John Eckley (who has a great grill!), Diana Hauman,
Bernie Anderson and daughter Emily and her friend
Erica, John Kirk, Rick Glass and daughter Jessica,
Rusty DePew and son Morgan, Bob Denny (who carried
out one of his responsibilities - that of moving
four tubs wings from Hooters to Miller Park-with
grace), Jeanette Nuckolls, and Dale Traxler.
Also, donations were received from Laura Wheaton
(door prizes); Nicor (inflatable play house, beach
front access and prizes); Walgreens (grand prize
and food storage); Hooters (the wings) and McDonald's
(beverage cups). It was fun to see the kids playing
and the families interacting. The food was good
and plentiful, the games fun, the weather good.
It was a success!
