BLOOMINGTON KIWANIS MOTHER’S DAY FLOWER SALE

RAISES FUNDS TO SEND LOCAL KIDS TO CAMP LIMBERLOST

Bloomington Kiwanis Mother’s Day Flower Sale is fast becoming a tradition, with this being the fifth

annual sale. The club holds this event every Mother’s Day weekend selling thousands of annual and

perennial plants to the community. Their red and white canopy flower tent is located between Yankee

Candle and Ann Taylor Loft at the Shoppes at College Hills, offering a host of annuals, herbs, vegetable

garden plants and the addition of perennials this year.

This year the Mother’s Day Flower Sale fundraising event is from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, May

8 and Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10, continuing on Mother’s Day Sunday, May 11 from 9:00 AM to

The flowers are provided by fundraising partner Wendell Niepagen Greenhouses with a wide selection

of annuals, herbs and perennials under the tent. This year the club is emphasizing lovely hanging

baskets and large planted pots because they make perfect Mother’s Day gifts. A popular feature of the

Mother’s Day Flower Sale are the Master Gardeners, local experts to help advise shoppers and to share

tips on how to plant pots, how to pick the right plant for light and soil conditions, and more.

Hundreds of Kiwanis members volunteer to set up, care for, and assist shoppers with the sale of the

plants in order to raise funds for its main signature service project, Camp Limberlost. Proceeds from

the sale go to helping local deserving children go to camp, as well as other local children’s projects. Each

summer, since 1931, originally begun by The Pantagraph, Bloomington Kiwanis sends over a hundred

8-10 year olds who have been identified as children who would benefit from a camping experience, to

Camp Limberlost at East Bay Camp at Lake Bloomington. Camp Limberlost is supported by fundraisers

throughout the year including Mother’s Day Flower Sale, Pancake Days, Peanut Days, cheese sales, golf

outings and individual donations.

The Bloomington Kiwanis Club was formed in 1921 and has had many local community and business

leaders as members and officers through the years. It is part of Kiwanis International, a service

organization whose mission is to change the world, one community and one child at a time. The

Club meets every Monday at noon for one hour at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton Conference

Center, 10 Brickyard Drive in Bloomington. Lunch and a program are included at each meeting.
