Limberlost Campers

History
Camp Limberlost was founded in 1931 by the Bloomington
Pantagraph. Starting in 1940, the Kiwanis Club
of Bloomington assumed responsibility and complete
sponsorship of the camp. This is the oldest continuous
resident camp in the State of Illinois and the
oldest continuous project in all of Kiwanis International.

Purpose
The Bloomington Kiwanis club provides this camp
for children ages 8 through 10. It offers a flexible,
nutritious, and enjoyable camping experience, emphasizing
positive social interaction through involvement
in a variety of activities. Read more in the Camp

Goals
Each camper will:
- Become aware of how their personal actions
affect themselves and others within the camp
community.
- Develop skills in interpersonal relationships
while gaining a sense of belonging with cabin
groups and the larger camp community.
- Develop an interest in various activities,
which include games, archery, arts & crafts,
swimming, canoeing, horseback riding and more.
- Learn to know and respect people with a variety
of cultural backgrounds.
- Learn about other cultures around the world.

Facility
Presently our camp venue is the Timber Pointe
Outdoor Center at Lake Bloomington.The camp is
operated by Easter Seals UPC. The camp is accredited
by the American Camping Association (ACA). Camp
Limberlost has maintained a 4:1 camper-to- counselor
ratio.

Sponsors
The cost of this camp, like many other things, continues
to rise. We welcome contribution to support the camp.
Sponsorships of any size are most welcome. Our current
cost per camper is $600 and cabins vary in size from
8-12 campers ($4,800 to $7,200). Donation made to the
Bloomington Kiwanis Foundation, P.O. Box 1866, Bloomington,
IL 61702-1866 are tax deductible.
Impact of Camp Limberlost
Through area school principals and teachers, children
are selected to attend who would benefit from the summer
camp experience. The camp has often been a life changing
experience for these kids ages 8 through 10. This camp
has made an indelible impression on the Bloomington
Normal community during its 60-year life span. Camp
Limberlost has made our community a better place to
live by influencing the lives of over 5000 young people.
