Stop by early, often
Held the week before Mother’s Day weekend, the Bloomington Kiwanis Flower Sale provides the community with the opportunity to purchase flowers, plants and vegetable garden plants, all for a good cause – sending local kids to camp.
“Typically, Wednesday is our busiest day,” says Reid Butts, chair of the Flower Sale committee. “But, we get a second truckload of flowers on Thursday, so our selection is always top-notch. We often see people more than once during the week because they are so pleased with the quality and selection of our inventory.
“We’re easy to find and centrally located,” adds Butts. “Look for the big white tent at the Shoppes at College Hills. Hanging baskets are always a great gift idea for mom.”
Great selection, expertise on-site
Bloomington Kiwanis Club members sell thousands of flowers and plants to the community, including annuals, herbs and hanging and potted plants. Fundraising partner Wendell Niepagen Greenhouses helps the club secure the Flower Sale’s selection of beautiful blooms.
“Wendell Niepagen has been with us from the start,” says Butts. “We appreciate their support and the knowledge and expertise they provide when we place our order.” The Club orders flowers through Niepagen, and flowers are supplied by Danville Gardens.
Master Gardeners partner with Kiwanis to provide expertise on-site, advising shoppers and sharing tips about choosing the right plants for light and soil conditions. Bloomington Kiwanis members staff the sale throughout the week, caring for the plants and keeping inventory fresh and beautiful.
